Chalet Pensees des Alps

Action Packed Summer and Winter Holidays in the French Alps

Chalet1

If you are looking for an action packed and healthy summer or winter holiday for all ages in breathtaking alpine surroundings, Chalet Pensees des Alps, just above the ancient village of Samoens (only 1 hour from Geneva airport), is your ideal base.

Chalet Pensees des Alps is a self catering chalet, which sits in the beautiful hamlet, 4km above Samoens.  It sleeps 12 in 5 bedrooms, is south facing and offers stunning views across the valley. With 2 drawing rooms, 2 kitchens/dining areas and a study, there is plenty of space for larger groups or families sharing. Our chalet was interior decorated as a comfortable home, rather than a commercial entity. We use it as much as we are able to and occasionally let it to guests.

Summer

Samoens is a very historic and famous ancient masonry town and one of the prettiest Alpine resorts in France. It has as much, if not more to offer in the summer as well as during the winter season. From zip wiring at the Indiana Park or paragliding and white water rafting, horse riding, climbing, Via Ferrata, tennis, mountain biking (bikes can be hired), fishing, golf to swimming in the local public swimming pool or the local lake, caving or mountaineering classes, there is no time to get bored.

There are plenty of spectacular walks, some of which lead to refuges, where you can stay the night or stop for lunch. You will find all the food you need in the large local supermarket and organic food shop or buy fresh produce at the weekly Samoens market, which sells just about everything.

The Samoens Tourist Office lays on weekly entertainment programs for visitors. There are also activities and clubs as well as a crèche for younger children available, during the summer and winter season.

If you do need to relax though, book a yoga class or treat yourself to a massage and spend a few hours at the local spa.

Winter

The winter season is equally impressive. Being part of the Grand Massif ski area, which connects Samoens with Flaine, Les Carroz d’Araches, Morillon and Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval, it offers 265km of ski runs of all levels and plenty of areas for Nordic skiing enthusiasts. Alernatively, go dog sledging, spend the evening going on a nocturnal raquet outing with dinner at a tipi, or try some ice skating on the large ice skating ring in the centre of town.

Out and About

For those, who like to explore the area, the famous Samoens Alpine garden, Eco Museum and the impressive waterfalls at the Sixt Fer a Cheval  National Park are a must. There is a summer route from our valley to Morzine (25 minutes by car) where you can try out their Summer Luge. Take a ride in the old train to the Chamonix Mer de Glace and Ice Cave, visit ancient Annecy and go on a boats tour, indulge in a spa day at Evian, or head off to Geneva and its stunning lake, all within an hours drive from Samoens.

If you like to step out of your comfort zone, during the ski season and are not fazed by heights,  book a guide to take you donwn the Chamonix Valley Blanche Glacier, which will take several hours. The final cable car, taking you on the last leg to the top of the Aiguille du Midi, from where you start your trip, is one of the highest in the world. A guide is a must but if you are up for it and weather conditions permitting, it is an amazing experience.
